Graphic Design Question…?
Question by Hartley Designs: Graphic Design Question…?
Where can I find a blank template with all the accurate sizes for a brochure? (8.5 x 11 size)

Answer by Ad H
Hmm..since you already know what dimensions you need, why not just make it yourself. If you need any other specific details like, colour format, cut-off boarders and DPI, you should have mentioned those too.
What exactly are you trying to do, because i’ve made magazines and the smallest details need to be correct as it can ruin the entire line if you don’t catch the mistake after the test print.

How much should i charge for my design services?
Question by Who is Danger Woman?: How much should i charge for my design services?
I’m a technical writing student, and as a project i did a brochure for a restaraunt in my community. I did it for free, because i the guy who owns it is pretty chill, i was getting credit for it, and it was also my first. Well now word has gotten out around town, and i have a couple projects line up for me. The thing is, most are beginning businesses, so i’m not sure what is a fair price for my services. I don’t just throw a bunch of pictures and text together and call it an ad. I design my own templates, do some photo editting, research the area, because a lot of these businesses are in the historic area. All in all i would say i could spend a full days work dedicated to the project.

I think the question you need to ask first is how much do you want to make?
Lets say you want to make $ 10K a month. You would need 10 clients paying you $ 1000 per job.
So if you want to make $ 10K a month and work 40 hours a week, you need to charge $ 250 per hour.
Next just figure out how long it will take you to do the project and then you have your answer!
Hope this helps!

Experienced Graphic Designers ONLY (please) Do you think its good design judgement to use silhouettes?
Question by Tavannia7: Experienced Graphic Designers ONLY (please) Do you think its good design judgement to use silhouettes?
I know ipod had the silhouette thing, but nowadays the only silhouette designs I really see are in powerpoint templates. My friend is making a branding system for himself and his logo is really good but for his other branding materials he wants to incorporate business people silhouettes with a blue gradient background. I told him his brochure looked like a template and not nearly as creative as his logo, but he disagrees. What do you think? (examples of what I’m talking about:

I don’t have an example of his brochure but it is very similar to the blue powerpoint designs in the above link.

My personal opinion on silhouettes is, if it’s unique, something new, it can be really eye catching. If it’s not totally unique and doesn’t grab an immediate second look I would advise him to put a logo on the bottom right, maybe incorporate a gradient spot color of his primary logo color with his business name in text.
It’s easy, and should look classy and professional. If you must use a picture make sure it doesn’t take away from the logo after all it sounds like he is still branding.
My 2 cents. Good luck with whatever he picks.

How much would I pay to for a custom web design for a site like or better than http://www.deciccohomes.ca ?
Question by Janus: How much would I pay to for a custom web design for a site like or better than http://www.deciccohomes.ca ?
I want to pay for original custom web design work only – no templates. Moreover, I don’t want to pay more than $ 25 a month for hosting and maintanance afterwards but I would like the same professional to do this. To be perfectly clear, I would like a serious full time professional with a solid portfolio to do this. I need direct contact and personal attention. I have digital photos and brochures for the designer to draw from.
Note: I build homes, but this does not mean that I would like to be ripped for all I am worth. I had a local studio offer to do this for $ 12,000 and $ 300 a month afterwards for hosting and maintenance. I am sure that adding two or three photos every month would not cost this much.
What would a serious professional web designer in Ontario charge for a job like this?
Please no referrals.
How much would the one time fee for the design work be?
Ashley, if I wanted a template I could buy one for $ 50 and then I would not need a professional to tailor my website. How do you know that deciccohomes.ca is based on a template?

I’m a web-designer/programmer from Rochester, NY. I’m not sure about in Canada, but I can tell you that the going rate for basic web-design is about $ 250.00 a year here in Rochester. There may be some other fee’s applied to the application of such design if you need to buy a domain and a host site.
Regardless, even if you have to have it built from scratch, the overall price should not exceed $ 300.00 a year.

Q&A: i need to know how to design a brochure. do you have a template for a one page two-sided color brochure?
Question by Los Amigos de Bonsai: i need to know how to design a brochure. do you have a template for a one page two-sided color brochure?
I am not sure whether to use one full sheet like a magazine page ad, or a single sheet that is folded twice so it has three “column-like” frontice panels on each side, or a single sheet folded once so there are two panels on either side. I have the Copy in mind (more or less) and would like to include some photos. I am working with WIndows XP, Word, etc. I only have Acrobat Reader. Does anyone have a template doc or spreadsheet I can use as a basis to work with? Many thanks

Believe it or not, check out WalMart Photo Center.
You can design & create photo booklets and insert your own photos.
You can get similar products from Photobucket.com too
If you are looking for a simple 3-fold brochure, MS Word can do the trick.
