Q&A: Microsoft publisher help?

Question by Sean: Microsoft publisher help?
I have to create a six page brochure on a genetic disorder(Tay-Sachs disease). I was just wondering which template would be the best for what i’m trying to do. I would like to use a blank one but i cant find it. This is my first time ever using publisher so please don’t be all technical lol.

Setup your publication as a booklet. You will have to either make the booklet four pages or eight pages, this is the way a Publisher booklet works.

If you are trying to create a three panel brochure, Publisher has templates built in; opening one will give you an idea on how to setup the panels.

If starting from scratch, in Publisher, Arrange, Layout Guides, here you will need to know your printer limitations in order to get the correct margin numbers. In the Grid Guide tab, three columns.

Q&A: How can I set up Borderless Printing in MS PUBLISHER?

Question by Magz: How can I set up Borderless Printing in MS PUBLISHER?
I have created a brochure in MS Publisher (2007 version) using a template and am having trouble with my margins. When I printed the brochure using the template guidelines it prints out with margins and the right margin is always thicker than the rest. No matter how I try to adjust the margins manually, it still prints out with margins and that annoying thick right margin that cuts off part of the brochure.
Does anyone know how I can set MS Publisher to print my brochure without margins (I would like no white bordering the brochure and want the content to print from edge to edge)????
I found borderless options but they didn’t have it for letter size.
I would appreciate it so much if someone could walk me through the steps to correct this silly hassle I am having. Thanks in advance for all your help!

P.S. I did try the same thing in other programs like Word to see if it would make a difference but it’s the same story!

There could be a few problems here but the first, I would guess, is that your publication page setup and your printers page setup are not the same (A4 or Letter etc. ).
Not all printers can print borderless pages, but if it specifies it can do so, go to the printers control panel and look for a borderless option.

Answer by Simply 6, but who’s counting
I’m feeling helpless here as I’m running Publisher 2007, not 2003, but the templates are under ‘Publication Types’. Try looking under Format/Format Publication, or by selecting ‘New’ under the File menu. Also look for ‘Search for Templates’ and type in Brochures. I hope this helps somewhat.

Oops, I’ve edited to read, I AM running 2007, not 2003. Any luck yet?

Microsoft Publisher prints extra page? Need Help!?

Question by horseluver442: Microsoft Publisher prints extra page? Need Help!?
I used the capsules brochure template in Microsoft Publisher 2007. I was finished with my brochure so I clicked print. however for some reason my computer prints an extra page BEFORE the page I wanted.

the extra page is a sample of the template saying stuff like “this is where you put your important information” and useless stuff like that. its basically what my brochure looked like before i put my info into it. i thought it would only happen once but every time i print something from publisher it does this. i scrolled up and down the publisher screen but it only shows 1 page, the page I edited.

its useless and wastes ink. How do I stop this?

A simple way is to just print the pages you want using the “From – To” option in the print dialog box. For example, you would type a 2 and a 4 in the appropriate boxes to print pages 2, 3, and 4 of your document.

Long term, and better solution is to delete the unwanted page and hope that nothing else gets goofed up. All you have to do is RIGHT click the page icon at the bottom left of the screen and choose delete.

What Adobe software is like Microsoft Publisher ???

Question by B: What Adobe software is like Microsoft Publisher ???
I need an Adobe software that has all the templates, designs for brochures, menus, business cards, etc.

I already use Microsoft Publisher to get the design templates of the menus im making, but i cant make them into PDF files as id like to .

What adobe software can give you all the templates for restaurant menus, brochures , etc?

Best answer:

Answer by Triple Threat
Professional software does not come w/ templates – just certain tool presets and filters. You MIGHT be able to find some Quark or InDesign templates for sale online though. But honestly, if this is for a business, wouldn’t you prefer the menu and brochure reflected your company’s branding…look and feel? A template isn’t very original, now is it? Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, InDesign…are all used by professional designers who have a good grasp of graphic design, and have been trained to visually communicate ideas. They know how to properly work with Fonts/Typography, Graphics, Layout, Composition…etc. These programs are a clean empty canvas waiting to be filled up.

Publisher shouldn’t be used for anything you want to get printed professionally…as you can see it isn’t really very compatible or useful unless you are printing at home.

Would you ever consider hiring a designer to take a look at your already created menu design, and they can recreate it (though they will not copy your template, but could come up w/ a similar look/concept). They already know how to work w/ the software – it takes some time to really know and understand these programs. Do you know how to setup the files for print? Do you know how to work with High resolution images, and what format the printer needs them in? Have you any experience working with a printer? These are all questions to ask yourself and decide if it is really worth trying to be a graphic designer or not. Could your time be better spent?

I have worked w/ many people who have their designs in publisher, only to need me to redo it. So please keep that in mind. If your on a tight budget, you could pay a local talented design student! Just some ideas for you.

I hope I’ve been of some help to you! Best of Luck!
