I purchased this to replace version 23 thinking that it would be an improvement on some of the problem areas (such as the database function). Boy, was I mistaken. When I received the disk, it had scratches and could not be read in any of my computers. After polishing the disk I finally got it to read. After installing it I realized that none of the old projects will work with the new version. That was a bummer, just by itself, but the real problem with this new version is that it doesn’t do half the things the older one did.

The first project I needed to use it for became a real challenge. I wanted to make address labels for set of cards I was sending out family about my parents move. First, there is no internal database feature at all in the new version. It used extracts from your email program in a format that my email doesn’t support. After doing a lot of research, I was finally able to get around that problem and then found that the only way it will print labels is to print a full page of them. I thought I must be doing something wrong so I went to the help which is almost useless. Then I tried the Broderbund website support section which was no help because there are no tips generated for this product yet. I finally put in trouble request. This was something I was familiar with because I had already put in a trouble request concerning my unreadable disk. The email reply that comes as a result of this, tells you that you will receive a reply within 48 hours, but that if your question has already been asked and there is a tip on it they will not reply at all.

As I am writing this, about 2 weeks have passed since I submitted these trouble tickets. I have not received a reply to either one and there are no FAQs that answer them. My guess is that they are so inundated by trouble tickets on this product that they have decided to just ignore them all. Shame on you Broderbund. After being a loyal customer for years, I will not be purchasing any more Broderbund products until they decide to actually start providing support.

Some may ask why I just used email to contact them. The answer is simple, the only telephone number they offer for support is long distance (no toll free) and it is listed with a warning to expect hold times averaging 30 minutes or more. I really couldn’t see dumping more money into the hole called The Print Shop 2.0 Deluxe.

Just opened the box today – this looks pretty and is updated but it has many many fewer graphics and layouts than my old Printshop 21 has. We have 1800 image results for a search on “dogs” rather than the 3,500+ dog images in the old one. When I searched “book” there were 1,000 in the new product versus 3,184 in the old one. The graphics did appear to be higher resolution and quality but so much less in quantity that it didn’t matter. At least some of the images are a carry-over from the older version I had. This version has a lot more photos and fewer drawn graphics. There are only 6 styles of pre-made brochures versus 350 in the old one. Also no option for a blank – create your own brochure at all. There are only 8 sample versions of headlines versus 84 in the old version. Some features such as snap in guides seem to be missing entirely. There are lots of restrictions on the images and how they can be used – more so than the old version had. The license mentions that they can discontinue or start charging for any online content at any time. Product is not backwards compatible with older versions so I can’t open any of my existing projects in it. On the plus side – this version is Windows 7 compatible. I bought this on a pre-release special from Broderbund for $11.99 and I plan to send it back for a refund

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: The Print Shop 2.0 Deluxe (DVD-ROM)

Paid extra at Amazon to use my prime shipping. This item was neccessary for my Wife’s long time use of Print Shop becasue she now has a new PC with Windows 7 and this is the only offering Print Shop has for Win.7 Installation was easy but you must register on line before installtion is complete. It had the mandatory tabs along with several pages of just marketing questions which I skipped everything execpt the first few lines of asterik tabs which must be filled in. Projects have went smooth and graphics and photos are on line not on DVD so you must be connected to the internet to fully use the program. Having many photos and other images already on PC I used the import function to retrieve the ones we wanted for future projects. Program runs quickly and not sign of major bugs yet. I was very nervous about buying this product due to so many negative reviews, but so far it is working well for us. There will be a learning curve for creating projects if you are used to the older versions. This layout seems more up to date and the tab function are great. I do recommend this program if you have Windows 7.
